Turn recovery goals into RTO and RPO
Distinguish recovery time objective from recovery point objective and use both to clarify continuity requirements.
The move: write recovery promises with two numbers, not one adjective. "Critical" and "urgent" are not recovery objectives. They do not tell the team which architecture to fund, which test to run, or what trade-off the business has accepted. A useful target separates service recovery from data recovery. Recovery time objective RTO is the time target. It says how quickly an activity, capability, or system needs to be available again.
