Spend complexity where the reader gets value
Recognize when nested flow control is adding reader cost beyond business value.
The move: reduce the number of conditions a reader must keep in their head. Why nesting hurts Every nested branch adds a condition the reader must remember while interpreting the next line. The code may be correct, but the mental stack grows until review quality drops. The clean-code response Use guard clauses for exits, named predicates for business concepts, and phase splits when validation, lookup, and decision-making have been blended together. The judgment call Do not flatten a rule into clever one-liners. If the simplified version hides the business rule behind boolean gymnastics, you traded visible nesting for invisible complexity.
