Start a 1:1 with the goal, not the agenda
Open a 1:1 by naming the useful outcome before discussing updates.
The move: start with the useful outcome. GROW begins with Goal because coaching needs a target. In a 1:1, that target is not always a metric. It may be a decision, a stuck point, a confidence gap, or a conversation the person is avoiding. Ask one question before status: What would make this useful by the end? Then sort the agenda around that answer. Updates that matter can stay. Updates that could be sent in writing move out of the way.
