Write a clarifying question that does not feel like a reset
Transform a generic clarification into a cooperative, path-shaping question.
A student asks, "Can I drop it?" The assistant needs to know what "it" refers to before giving academic-policy advice. Reflect the understood domain -> name the ambiguity -> offer path-shaping choices. The common trap is asking "Can you clarify?" That sounds polite, but it gives the user no clue which detail matters.
