Do not turn artifact spotting into proof
Distinguish weak visual clues from stronger contextual evidence when reviewing suspected synthetic media.
Glitches are clues, not verdicts. Artifact spotting is useful, but it is not a courtroom standard. Generative AI can create synthetic faces, voices, and edits that are hard to judge by perception alone. Real media can also look strange because of compression, low bandwidth, lighting, captions, stabilization, or platform processing. Use evidence stacking NIST's Generative AI Profile treats synthetic content as a risk that needs governance, measurement, and management. That points to a better habit: stack evidence.
