Read clauses as risk controls
Use ISO 31000 thinking to connect contract language to objectives, uncertainty, and treatment.
Contract language is a risk treatment. A redline is easier to evaluate when the team can say what it protects. Without that link, the negotiation becomes a contest of preferences: legal caution, sales urgency, program practicality, and customer pressure. Objective Start with the objective the contract must protect. In defense contracting, that might be mission availability, secure handling of controlled information, clean acceptance, or predictable funding. Uncertainty Then name what is uncertain.
