PREDICTIVE-ANALYTICS5 MIN READ

Define the label like a contract

Specify a predictive label with event, window, exclusions, and auditability before feature work starts.

The move: treat the label as a documented business artifact. Event definition Write exactly what must happen for the positive class to be true. Avoid shorthand like bad customer, high value, or risky lead. Time window Specify when the event is measured. Predictive analytics fails when the label window overlaps with the feature window. Exclusions and edge cases Document the cases that would confuse future users: refunds, duplicate accounts, internal tests, migrations, late renewals, and manual overrides.
