Same-day emergencies are added wherever a small gap appears, causing late starts and unclear patient expectations. Kanban WIP limit: define how much urgent work can enter the day before something else must move. The common trap is calling every small gap capacity. A five-minute opening does not create provider time, assistant support, room readiness, sterilization capacity, and patient communication time.
