Turn RTO and RPO into a recovery contract
Differentiate RTO and RPO and use them to set recovery expectations with business stakeholders.
The move: separate downtime from data loss. RTO and RPO are easy to recite and easy to misuse. RTO answers: how long can this process be unavailable before the business harm becomes unacceptable? RPO answers: how far back can the recovered data be without creating unacceptable harm? One controls the recovery clock. The other controls the data-loss window.
