Distinguish objective observation from interpretation before planning an early-childhood activity.
The move: write what happened before you decide what it means. Developmentally Appropriate Practice is a decision-making framework, not a list of cute activities. It asks educators to hold three kinds of knowledge together: common patterns in child development, the individuality of this child, and the social and cultural context around the child.
