Use Pareto before rewriting returns policy
Use a Pareto view to choose which return reason deserves operational attention first.
The move: rank return reasons before changing policy. A Pareto chart is useful when many problems are competing for attention. In ecommerce returns, the categories are not equal. Wrong size, damaged in transit, not as described, late delivery, buyer remorse, duplicate order, warranty failure, and wrong item all point to different operating systems. Build two bars for each reason: one for volume and one for cost. Volume tells you where customers and support are spending time. Cost tells you where margin is leaking.
