Use teach-back before a family plan leaves the room
Use teach-back to confirm a family member understands a care plan, boundary, or safety instruction.
The move: check your explanation, not their intelligence. Teach-back asks the other person to explain the plan in their own words. The tone matters. In care management, families may already feel judged or powerless. If teach-back sounds like a test, it creates defensiveness. If it sounds like a check on your communication, it creates safety.
