Map the client room before the meeting

Use power-interest stakeholder mapping to plan communication before a technical decision meeting.

The move: map influence before you build the deck. A power-interest map is a communication planning tool. Put each stakeholder into one of four zones: high power/high interest, high power/low interest, low power/high interest, or low power/low interest. Then change the engagement, not the truth. High power/high interest stakeholders need early involvement and no surprises. High power/low interest stakeholders need a crisp decision brief and a clear ask. Low power/high interest stakeholders need listening, operational detail, and a way to see their concerns handled.
