Turn a vague design scope into a WBS
Break an engineering design assignment into deliverable-oriented work packages before assigning hours.
The move: decompose by deliverable, not by effort. A WBS protects engineering work because it converts an abstract promise into visible work packages. Start with the contracted outcome, then ask: What tangible outputs must exist for this outcome to be true? Each output should have a clear owner, acceptance signal, estimate, and boundary. If a line cannot be priced or checked, it is still too vague. Broad scope labels create management fog.
