Recall concrete wording patterns that improve financial variance commentary.
Weak vs strong Rewrite: "Margin was impacted by operational headwinds." Concrete driver language makes the variance testable. Timing phrase Can we just say it is timing? Revenue beat plan, but the benefit may reverse next quarter. Your line Say what timed differently: who paid, ordered, shipped, or consumed earlier than forecast, and whether it reverses. Timing is a category, not an explanation. It preserves uncertainty while naming the economic event. Sentence frame What is the fastest board-ready variance sentence? [Line item] moved [amount] because [driver]; [next implication]. Example: Cash fell $2.1M because receivables grew; collections are the Q3 watch item.…
