Find the high-conservation-value issue early
Use the six HCV categories as an early screen for values that need special management or consultation.
The move: screen for critical values before the operational map gets expensive. The HCV approach asks whether a place contains values of outstanding significance or critical importance. In forestry, this means the stand map is not enough. You need to ask what ecological, service, livelihood, and cultural functions the area may carry.
