Name the fun before naming features

Define a game idea as a target aesthetic, observable dynamics, and buildable mechanics.

The move: define the player experience before the feature stack. MDA gives you a clean chain: mechanics -> dynamics -> aesthetics. Mechanics are what you implement. Dynamics are what players do with those rules. Aesthetics are the emotional or experiential payoffs. In game development basics, this prevents the classic beginner trap: adding systems because they sound game-like instead of because they create a specific kind of play.
