Collaborate or compromise? Do not call a rushed split-the-difference collaboration. This is too sensitive; let us avoid it. Your line If it is affecting trust or decisions, avoidance is already a decision. Letting identity discomfort block the work issue. It reframes avoidance as a choice with consequences. When is competing appropriate? When urgency, safety, ethics, or policy require a clear decision. Use authority without age-coded language. When is accommodating appropriate? When the issue matters more to the other person and no core value or standard is compromised. Do not accommodate stereotypes.
