Use connected components as a sanity check before interpreting graph metrics.
Before you rank the network, ask whether it is one network. Connected components are a basic but high-leverage sanity check. They tell you which nodes can reach each other and which nodes live on separate islands. Components expose scope If 92 percent of nodes sit in one giant component, global metrics may be reasonable there. If the graph is split into hundreds of islands, a single global ranking may mix unrelated populations.
