Use open innovation to choose whether knowledge should flow into, out of, or across organizational boundaries.
The move: make the boundary visible. Open innovation starts from a practical observation: no organization has a monopoly on useful knowledge. A company can accelerate learning by sourcing external ideas, partnering with specialists, using customer or supplier insight, and letting unused internal ideas find a path outside the current business.
