RTO and RPO are not backup settings. They are business promises. RTO means the maximum tolerable time to restore a capability. RPO means the maximum tolerable amount of recent data loss. The words maximum tolerable matter. They should come from business impact, customer obligation, operational workaround, legal exposure, and revenue risk.
