Hear the ask behind the update
Identify the hidden ask inside a status update and check it before the meeting moves on.
Updates often hide asks. Listen for what the status needs from the room. A status update can carry a decision request, a risk signal, a request for escalation, or simple visibility. If you hear only the surface facts, the meeting may politely nod past the work it actually needed to do.
