Start with the failure history, not the calendar

Use a Pareto view of recent failures to choose the next maintenance planning focus.

The move: make the pattern visible before you plan the work. A Pareto chart turns a messy backlog into a ranked view of where maintenance pain is concentrated. Start with one measure that matters to the plant: downtime minutes, safety exposure, emergency labor, repeat failures, or missed schedule hours.
