Keep one load on the learner at a time
Diagnose whether a microlearning draft is overloaded by intrinsic, extraneous, or germane load.
The move: protect working memory. Cognitive load theory gives you a practical editing lens. Some difficulty belongs to the skill. A learner may need to compare two quiz options, notice a distractor, or apply a rubric. That is intrinsic load. Some difficulty is created by the lesson: labels that do not match, a diagram that repeats the text, long setup before the task, or a reference table learners have to memorize.
