Use environment variables for deploy-specific Node.js configuration without hardcoding secrets.
The move: make deployment differences explicit at the environment boundary. A config value belongs in the environment when it changes between deploys or contains a credential. A code constant belongs in code when it is part of how the program works and does not change by deploy.
