Use Collective Impact Only When the Problem Is Bigger Than You

Collective impact is not a synonym for "many organizations in a room." The original framework requires a common agenda, shared measurement, mutually reinforcing activities, continuous communication, and backbone support. For nonprofit management, that means the partnership has to affect strategy, data, staffing, and resource choices. Use collective impact for adaptive problems where the causes are interdependent and no single agency has the authority or capacity to solve the issue.
