Input Metric Recall Deck

Recall the difference between output, input, focus, and guardrail metrics.

Output metric A result metric that shows whether the strategy is working. Often lagging: revenue, retained accounts, completed orders. Input metric A behavior or lever that plausibly moves the output. Usually closer to product, lifecycle, sales, or service action. Leading vs. lagging metric Use leading metrics to steer and lagging metrics to judge. Can we make the guardrail a target too? Your line Only if it becomes a strategic priority. Otherwise it is a boundary: grow the target without crossing this harm line. Turning every guardrail into a target recreates dashboard sprawl. It keeps hierarchy clear.
