Set Storage SLIs Before Tuning
Define storage SLIs that guide NoSQL schema, consistency, and scaling decisions.
A database metric is not automatically a user metric. CPU, memory, and capacity graphs matter, but they do not tell you whether a specific customer screen met its promise. SLIs bridge that gap. For each critical NoSQL access pattern, define a small scorecard: latency percentile, correctness or freshness, and failure rate. Then connect the scorecard to design levers. A missed p95 may point to a better partition key or projection. A freshness miss may point to stream lag or consistency choice. A throttling miss may point to hot partitions or capacity allocation.
