Move silica control up the hierarchy
Use the hierarchy of controls to improve exposure control for dusty sand handling.
A sand transfer point creates visible dust that crosses a staffed work area during high-rate pumping. NIOSH hierarchy: eliminate, substitute, engineer, administrate, PPE The common trap is treating respirators as the whole plan because they are visible and quick, while the dust source keeps producing exposure. Eliminate or substitute Ask whether the dusty transfer can be removed, reduced, enclosed by design, or changed to a lower-dust material or delivery method.
