See packaging through the HACCP lens

Identify biological, chemical, and physical hazards introduced or controlled by packaging steps.

The move: ask whether packaging creates or controls a safety hazard. Hazard Type Use the HACCP categories. Biological hazards include exposure that could allow microbial growth or contamination. Chemical hazards include migration, cleaning residues, wrong ink systems, allergens, or mislabeling that changes safe use. Physical hazards include fragments, loose components, staples, glass, metal, hard plastic, or fiber contamination. Control Role A package can be the control.
