Treat no-shows as a testable system problem

Frame a no-show improvement effort as a small PDSA test with an aim, measure, and learning plan.

The move: test one change before changing the whole access policy. PDSA is improvement science in miniature. It protects you from making a clinic-wide change based on one frustrating morning. For no-shows, that matters because families miss visits for different reasons: reminder failure, transportation, caregiver work schedules, confusing portals, language barriers, long booking horizons, or low perceived need. Aim A good aim says who, what, how much, and by when. 'Reduce no-shows' is too vague. 'Reduce missed 4-year well visits booked more than 30 days out from 22 percent to 15 percent by August 31' gives the team a target.…
