Use Situation-Behavior-Impact to turn vague performance judgments into coachable observations.
The move: replace trait labels with a moment both people can examine. Situation Name the specific meeting, message, customer call, deadline, or handoff. Avoid fuzzy time markers like recently or always. Behavior Describe what a camera or transcript would capture. Use verbs: interrupted, sent, skipped, asked, summarized, escalated, paused. Impact Explain the practical consequence. Impact can be business impact, team impact, customer impact, or the impact on your ability to support the person. Intent A coaching version asks about intent after impact. Intent prevents mind-reading and helps the person connect their goal to the behavior they chose.
