Find the Vital Few Before You Optimize Everything
Apply Pareto analysis without treating 80/20 as a literal law.
The move: search for concentration before spreading capacity. Unevenness is the clue Many work systems are lopsided: a few customers drive renewals, a few bugs drive incidents, a few meetings consume the week. Pareto thinking asks you to inspect that lopsidedness. The ratio is not the rule Do not worship 80/20. Your distribution might be 60/10 or 90/30. The decision question is whether a minority of causes is large enough to justify focused action. Focus creates leverage Once the vital few are visible, you can fix, protect, automate, or escalate the causes that move the whole system.
