Emotion-read battlecards

Use quick-reference cards to respond to common workplace emotion-reading traps.

Flat “fine” They say: “It’s fine.” Voice is flat, eye contact drops. Possible masking, resignation, fear, or overload. Your line I hear the yes. What concern should we still capture before we move on? Do not reply, “You don’t sound fine.” It checks the work meaning of the cue without forcing an emotion label.
