Use three questions before the recommendation

Use situation, constraint, and payoff questions to improve retail product recommendations.

The compact discovery pattern: situation, constraint, payoff. Situation Ask where and how the product will be used. Situation turns a category request into a real context: commute, trip, event, room size, climate, frequency, user, or deadline. Constraint Ask what must be avoided or protected. Constraints include budget, fit, care, durability, policy, size limits, sensitivities, style boundaries, or compatibility with something the customer already owns. Payoff Ask what better looks like. This reveals the outcome the customer values most: comfort, speed, confidence, fewer returns, easier setup, longer life, or a finished look. A recommendation becomes stronger when it can point back…
