Write incident notes in plain language

Write security incident notes that are clear, factual, chronological, and actionable.

The move: write for the person who was not there. Plain-language incident notes make the next decision easier. They use familiar words, short sentences, specific details, and a visible order. The best security reports do not dramatize. They make the event inspectable. Separate fact from interpretation "The person was angry" is weaker than "The person spoke loudly, pointed at the desk, and said, "You will regret this."" If you need to include your assessment, write it after the facts: "Based on the threat language and movement toward the desk, I requested supervisor support."
