Speed Reading Has a Tradeoff
Apply one evidence-based speed-reading practice while preserving comprehension.
The evidence-based starting point is that speed and comprehension trade off. The 2016 Psychological Science in the Public Interest review argues that readers are unlikely to double or triple reading speed while preserving the same understanding. That does not make faster reading useless; it means the reader must separate reading, skimming, and scanning. Reading aims at meaning and inference. Skimming aims at gist and location.
