Pass one answers what question? What is this document, and is it worth more attention? Inspect title, summary, headings, conclusion, figures, and source cues. Pass two answers what question? What does it claim, and what evidence supports it? Read more carefully, especially figures, tables, diagrams, and the main argument. Pass three answers what question? Can I reconstruct, challenge, or implement this? Use when you must review, defend, teach, or build from the document. When do you stop? Pass three is a response to consequence, not a diligence badge.
