Start with the synthetic data purpose contract
Write a purpose contract that keeps a synthetic data request tied to one legitimate use case.
The move: write the contract before the generator. Synthetic data is created for a job. If the job is vague, every later decision becomes guesswork: fields, fidelity, privacy controls, validation metrics, retention, and approval. CRISP-DM starts with business understanding for the same reason. The data work has to serve a specific business objective, not a general desire for more data.
