Separate vanity spikes from listener signals
Interpret viral podcast metrics by separating Reach from Act, Convert, and Engage signals.
The move: treat a spike as evidence to inspect. A viral podcast clip is exciting because it solves one problem: it reached people. That is valuable, but it is only the first RACE stage. The team still needs to know whether viewers acted, converted, and engaged. Act signals show whether attention became interaction: profile clicks, saves, meaningful comments, trailer plays, or show-page visits. Convert signals show whether interaction became commitment: follows, newsletter signups, resource downloads, registrations, or sponsor clicks.
