Preventing Common Workplace Accidents
Identify root causes of common workplace accidents and recommend prevention strategies.
Prevention is a BHV's most important function. Common workplace accidents include slips and falls, struck-by incidents, caught-in or caught-between incidents, overexertion injuries, and contact with hazards. Understanding how these accidents happen enables BHVs to spot conditions that lead to incidents and recommend improvements. This might involve changing layouts, improving lighting, providing better equipment, or training employees on safer procedures. Prevention requires systematic thinking—examining not just what happened but why it happened and what conditions allowed it. BHVs who excel at prevention save their organizations money and prevent human suffering.
