Define the Process Problem Boundary
Write a bounded DMAIC problem statement with customer, defect, scope, metric, and goal.
If the problem is everything, the improvement is nothing. Name the Customer and Defect Define who receives the output and what makes the output unacceptable: late, incomplete, inaccurate, expensive, risky, or hard to use. Bound the Value Stream State the start and stop points. A value-stream boundary keeps the team from pulling adjacent systems into scope without evidence. Set the Baseline and Goal DMAIC needs a current measure and a target. The target should be ambitious enough to matter and close enough to guide the next measurement plan.
