Pressure works by compressing the injured vessel; supplies support pressure, not replace it. Check often or hold pressure? Reassess without repeatedly removing the intervention. “I need proper gauze before I can help.” Your line “Start pressure now; I’ll send Alex for the kit.” Waiting for perfect supplies. The action that buys time starts immediately. What should a bystander do while you hold pressure? Call 911, bring the trauma kit, meet EMS, or manage the scene.
