Decide when async communication will create faster progress than a meeting.
Async is a design choice, not a delay. Decision before discussion Start with the decision or deliverable. If the reader cannot tell what is being decided in the first three lines, they have to reconstruct your intent before they can help. Context packet Give enough background that someone waking up in another time zone can reason from the same facts. Include links, constraints, known tradeoffs, and what has already been tried. Reply contract Name the exact response you need: approve, object with evidence, add missing risks, or take ownership. Add a deadline that respects time zones instead of manufacturing panic.
