Replace Assumptions With Specifics
Spot identity assumptions and replace them with accurate role, audience, or person-first specifics.
Specificity is the workhorse move in inclusive language. When you name the real role, action, or audience, you avoid guessing about gender, family structure, location, ability, or culture. The habit is to ask: What fact am I actually trying to communicate? If the fact is job function, write the job function. If the fact is relationship to the product, write customer, admin, parent, applicant, or reviewer. If identity matters, use the person's own language or the accepted term from a credible style guide.
