Respond appropriately when someone discloses past abuse
Past abuse can still create present safeguarding duties. Listen without downgrading A historical disclosure may involve current risk to the person, other children or adults, or the alleged person access to others. The date does not make the disclosure irrelevant. Ask only what is needed for routing You may need enough to understand immediate safety and whether others could be at risk. You do not need to investigate the past event. Explain next steps honestly Tell the person what you need to share, with whom, and why. Record exact words and route through the safeguarding lead.
