Safety Assurance Is the Feedback Loop
Explain why every new aviation risk control needs an assurance check after implementation.
SMS closes the loop: identify risk, control it, then verify the control works. Risk control is a hypothesis A new briefing, checklist, sign, or tool says, 'This should reduce risk.' It is still a hypothesis until observed in use. Assurance looks for drift People may skip, reinterpret, duplicate, or route around the control. Assurance finds the drift early enough to improve the control. Evidence should be specific Use observations, reports, audit samples, training records, and performance signals. 'No one complained' is not evidence that the control works.
