Know When Residual Risk Is ALARP
Use ALARP thinking to challenge premature acceptance of residual risk.
ALARP means risk has been reduced as low as reasonably practicable. The useful management idea is the burden of demonstration: do not accept residual risk just because one control exists or because the risk matrix cell moved down. Ask what additional controls are available, how much risk reduction they create, and whether the time, cost, and trouble are grossly disproportionate to the benefit.
