Make Handoffs SBAR, Not Story Time
Use SBAR to turn a messy veterinary handoff into a concise action request.
SBAR makes the next decision unmistakable. Situation: lead with what is happening now Start with the live risk or operational decision. If the listener only heard one sentence, they should know why you interrupted them. Background: add only decision-useful context Include the facts that change the response: signalment, timing, key vitals, medication, client promise, estimate status, or constraint.
