Convert a vague Definition of Done into observable completion criteria.
Vague DoD: "Code complete, reviewed, tested." Observable, repeatable criteria Common trap: broad words like tested and reviewed hide very different interpretations across people. Step 1 Start from escaped surprise: missing analytics events after release. Real defects reveal where the current DoD lacks transparency. Step 2 Convert surprise into a check: "Customer-facing events verified in analytics debug view." The criterion is observable, not a slogan. Step 3 Decide scope: applies to customer-facing flow changes, not every backend-only refactor. Good DoD is strict enough to protect quality and clear enough to apply.
